Ruya, a graduate of Mount Holyoke College, first joined MGEF in 2007 as an intern. She returned in September 2011 as Assistant to the President with a deep interest in growing supporters and partners via online communities like Kabissa.

Originally from the Federated States of Micronesia, Ruya has also lived in Alaska, Maine, Massachusetts, and Denmark. She currently resides in the DC Metropolitan area, where she works for Maasai Girls Education Fund. Her passions include global health, women's rights, and youth empowerment. In her spare time, Ruya edits, writes, and co-administers blogs for Hardy Girls Healthy Women and SPARK Summit. She also serves Dr. Irene Jillson as a research assistant, a position that she has held for nearly four years.
With an educational background in gender studies, religion, and health from Mount Holyoke College, and extensive experience in grassroots communications, Ruya seeks to educate, facilitate discussion, and instigate social change through digital media. In the future, she hopes to live internationally, while continuing to engage the public in accessible online activism.
Ruya's inspirations include H.H. the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Kavita N. Ramdas, and Shelby Knox.
