Two reports are released today that address the use of mobile phones for activism and social media as a medium for bringing about social change. So much is written about mobile phones being used for advocay and just generally for improving people's daily lives but how much of it is really beneficial?

in 1967 following a series of experiments, US psychologist Stanley Milgram claimed everyone in the world was connected by 6 people. Later in 2006 the theory was upheld by Microsoft in a study of instant messenger conversations. A new study of social networks claims online and mobile social networking has cut6 degrees of separation to 3.

African blogger White African raises the issue of the middleman on African Remittances which is a $billion market. Before I continue I think it is important to also note speak about the "African Brain Drain" which in one sense is the other side of the remittance issue being that those who leave Africa to work in the West are the ones largely responsible for remittances.
