This month's buzz on African Technology: Startups Nigeria

StartUps Nigeria by Loy, is probably the most interesting and long awaited blog on technology in Africa. The idea behind the blog is to write about and promote Nigeria Web 2.0 applications and new developments in mobile technology.

StartupsNigeria is a blog that reviews and analyzes web startups in Nigeria, as well as tech/mobile products and services in Nigeria that are making an impact in today’s new web space.

The idea is to connect global web-savvy blogs and businesses with those in Nigeria, as well as to empower new Web 2.0 startups in Nigeria to developing products and services that would add value to users. The site would be featuring blogs, news, forums, etc that would share information on the latest gists around startups in Nigeria as well as provide tips and advice for Nigerian web entrepreneurs on how to start and build successful online startups.

Apparently Nigeria is ranked No 1 in internet usage however it is not clear what exactly this is referring to. According to Africa Internet Usage statistics, Nigeria has a usage of 18.1% with SA's usage 11.5% . However most startups to date have come from South Africa and Kenya so hopefully "Startups Nigeria" will encourage more Nigerians to begin developing not only home grown Web 2.0 apps, but ones in at least Nigeria's main three indigenous languages as well as English.

We at Kabissa and I am sure elsewhere will be keeping a close eye on StartUps Nigeria and hoping Nigerian developers come up with the goods!
