Tags: The conference took place in Dakar between the 16th and 20th March and was organised by IDLELO. Some of the main events were: The Digital Doorway project made use of FOSS and Open Content MobilED allows SMSing to get information from WIkipedia Libre (Free) Communities - providing free agency for people and free access to knowledge. Wireless Africa, which is enabling communities to set up mesh networks. Other discussions centered around government policies towards open source with presentations from Ivory Coast, South Africa, Mali; the One LapTop Per Child project; the African Virtual Open Initiatives and Resources (AVOIR). A project that aims to create a network for capacity building through Free Software; FLOSS4EDU and WikiEducator which seeks to bring together an Africa wide collaboration in the development of open educational resources; software patents and open standards. Derek Keats of Information and Communication Services (ICS) has put together some podcasts from the conference as well as videos. | |
