Update 11 Oct: Kabissa is now listed on the Blog Action Day Partners page as an official blogging partner. We appreciate the initiative and are proud to be a part of it.  Let's live up to it by contributing many posts from the Kabissa community!

Hello Everyone!

Blog Action Day is here with us again and this time dealing with all matters FOOD.

What is Blog Action Day?

Since 2007, Blog Action Day has focused bloggers around the world to blog about one important global topic on the same day. Past topics have included water, climate change and poverty.

This year, Blog Action Day will be held on October 16, which coincides with World Food Day, so naturally our 2011 theme is FOOD.

All Kabissa members are invited to blog about food in Africa. You can send in your posts via email to connect@groups.kabissa.org or post online to http://kabissa.org/group/connect (Do you need more info about how the Kabissa Community blog works? Click here to see the mission statement and posting instructions.)

If you plan to write about food on your own blog, be sure to register your blog on the Blog Action Day website and mention @kabissa when you share your post on twitter and facebook so that we can help spread it in the Kabissa network.

Below are some easy to use guidelines from the Blog Action Day team on what to write about and how to participate.

  • To be organic or not to be
  • Best and worst food memory

It takes 24 liters of water to produce one hamburger. That means it would take over 19.9 billion liters of water to make just one hamburger for every person in Europe.
  • Vegan, Vegetarian, Meat eater – Which one are you?
  • Will we be able to feed 9 billion people in 2050?
  • Freeganism
  • The scandal of Food Waste.
  • What is the best way to farm food.
  • Growing your own – the joys and heartache of growing what you eat.
  • Too much or too little taking food to extremes
  • Strangest thing you have ever eaten.
  • What food means to your culture.

Hi Kaprie,

Always nice to hear from you. Please consider starting a new discussion here introducing our community to the work of Childhelp and the partners you seek. You can also update your organization profile at http://childhelp.kabissa.org to include more recent information about your programs.

This advice goes to all Kabissa members of course - feel free to add profiles for all your organizations to the Kabissa directory and share your news here. If you have questions, contact the Kabissa membership manager at community@kabissa.org

Warm regards,

Tobias

Who runs Blog Action Day?

In case you missed last week’s email update, Change.org have chosen VOICE Blogging Project to take over the running of Blog Action Day.  I’m Karina Brisby, from VOICE, and I created and co-founded VOICE in 2009. As a founder of VOICE, I am proud to be continuing the tradition of incredible Blog Action Days that inspire and activate so many to make our world better.

VOICE aims to connect bloggers, non-profits and established media together so they can collaborate with each other on big global events like the G20 Summits, UN Climate Change Conferences and more. We have enabled hundreds of bloggers from around the world to attend and cover these summits and provided them with unprecedented access to experts and world leaders. VOICE will continue to work with our great partners to support and empower bloggers 365 days a year.

After Blog Action Day 2011, I’ll be asking you all how you’d like to see the event develop in the future and letting you know about some other exciting blog projects.

That’s all for now.  I’d like to say a big thank you for all the support and help the team has received to help make Blog Action Day happen in a very short amount of time.

Have a great week and don’t forget to register.

All the best

Karina Brisby, and the rest of the Blog Action Day team
