Mathare North Youth Organisation (MANYO)
Mission Statement
Identify, tap and turn the youthful talents and energy into meaningful service to the community.
Our objectives are derived from the needs and concern of our community. The programs are also tailored to suit the needs of the youth and the entire community by using the resources at our disposal, however there is need for more support due to the growing needs from this community. Our objectives include: 1. Environmental Protection: This program is charged with the environmental protection activities. We have named the program ?جø¬?YES?جø¬? Youth Environmental Services that is charged with the coordination of activities aimed at protecting and preserving the environment. It has managed to organise successful clean up campaigns in our community and beyond. This has been done with help from the other stakeholders and the community support. 2. HIV/AIDS Awareness: Anybody ignoring HIV/AIDS is threatening the very existence of the youthful and productive generation the number of people dying from the scourge is escalating by the day both in our community and the country at large. We at MANYO have a program known as HIV/AIDS awareness team (HAT) that is charged with the onus of; ?جø¬? Exposing the youth to an environment that will facilitate their awareness and appreciation of the locally available preventive and curative health measures. ?جø¬? Offer counseling services. ?جø¬? Providing cares and support to both the affected and the infected. ?جø¬? To create a network of information sharing that can be freely accessible to all. ?جø¬? Lobby and source for support for the program. ?جø¬? Teach the youth the advantages in abstinence. 3. Drug Eradication: Drug abuse is common in our community. Each day we see people becoming captives of this menace. We have designed a program known as ?جø¬?YARD?جø¬? that is Youth Actively resisting Drugs. We conduct awareness campaigns and seek support to ensure drugs free society. Since we believe that every one should take a ?جø¬?Yard?جø¬? from drugs. We believe that HIV/AIDS and drug abuse are related and in order to win the war then they must be fought together. 4. Poverty Reduction: MANYO intends to provide drawbridges that will give hope, solidarity and dignity to every member and by extension the people of Mathare. We embark on initiatives that are demand driven and provide the impetus to extending basic life opportunities to all the members. We employ a bottom-up approach and all the members must be involved before committing ourselves to any particular project. A general concurrence must be reached; only then can a project be implemented without any hitch. 5. Gender Empowerment: MANYO advocates for equal opportunity for both male and female in our society. We champion for the scrapping of by-laws that are repugnant to the development of women in our community. Social stereotypes that suppress their well-being is strongly challenged. As the role models we have strong representation, contribution and dedicated service of both male and female members. It is our belief that women must play an active role if their voice is to be heard by all, thus they must be involved in policy formulation to address their needs. 6. Community Aid: Each of our program is geared towards helping our community, however, there are emergency cases and sometimes-special needs by a section of our community that requires speedy mobilization of resources to help solve the arising crisis. The common catastrophes include floods, fire and disease outbreaks. We have organised rescue services and intend to train a team of community First Aiders. Their obligation will be to offer a speedy response before real help comes. We believe that this is what determines if a person will live in the next minute. We believe that our strong youthful team with your support will bring change that can be emulated in our community and beyond. 7. Telecentre: The Organisation is working on a Telecentre project that is offering this slum community walk in computer services. It is also offering Internet link at a low level. The facility acts as a resource center and center of communication and document center in the community.
