Lake Victoria Trust Fund for Jomo Kenyatta Grounds (Public Information Center)
Mission Statement
To enable not for profit organisations and the public, especially the poor to achieve their goals through effective use of IT to access development information and to engage in innovative information dissemination services.
Public Information Resource Center: The Public Information Resource Center is established at Jomo Kenyatta Grounds to be a "showcase of excellence" in provision of information technology for repository of development information, and for dissemination of the same information for community empowerment in Kisumu and the whole Lake Victoria region. The center enables development actors to harness the power of technology in disseminating and sharing information on critical development areas to the community. The center is also a place where ordinary members of the community, especially the poor who have no access to such facilities, can learn to use computers and the Internet, get help from trained personnel or simply use the computer and Internet facilities in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. It is envisioned that this could lead to enhanced access to the knowledge banks that exist unexploited in the Internet for personal and community development. The center therefore enables nonprofit organizations, especially those working with the poor, to achieve their goals through effective use of Information technology to access development information and to engage in innovative information dissemination services. The Center also works with government agencies, research institutions, entrepreneurs' associations; NGOs and community-based organizations to promote bridging of the digital divide for underserved communities within the lake region.
