Description of Activities

Afrihealth Optonet Association (AOA) is a Nigerian non-governmental organisation (NGO), incorporated under the companies and allied matters law of 1990 as a not-for-profit, nonpartisan, nonreligious organization/trustee. It is involved in health and development research, policy analyses, advocacy, mobilization, communications, documentations, capacity building, trainings, public education and community interventions. Its activities focus on HIV/AIDS/TB, Health Reforms, Nutrition, Maternal & Child Health, Health-related MDGs, Blindness Prevention and Rehabilitation, Healthcare financing, and Immunisation.
Its objectives include: advocating and mobilising for the general health of the community and society providing health information and education conducting research on healthcare issues including maternal and child health, population, nutrition, and the environment intervening with relevant services to promote health for the whole family and society. It comprises Afrihealth Information Projects, Optonet International and GAHADA Partners.
Established in 1995, Afrihealth achieves its goals through awareness raising, workshops, seminars, civil society engagements, capacity building and gender training sessions; networking, lobbying, institutional support and participatory rural appraisal (PRA) in an effort to foster integrated development, especially in rural and poor urban communities and for vulnerable groups [poorest of the poor, women, children, elderly].
