The sun - it rises every day so is therefore completely predictable; it is free; it is POWERFUL. Think of 10 ways in which you could change your community by tapping the Sun's power and ask yourself how difficult is it really to collect the Sun's rays and use them in your every day life.
Here a Kenyan videographer uses the sun to create his own lighting equipement. For more ideas for using Solar Power for every day life see AfroMusing.

I "invented" the mechanical mathematician late last year and used it to make a parabolic solar cooker out of mud! I stuck kitchen foil straight onto the mud before it dried.
I do not know if anyone else has ever made a "mechanical mathematician" (I had to call it something!) I hope some of you will check it out on solarcooking.org or on my utube site http://www.youtube.com/user/gaiatechnician I believe that the only way to introduce new appropriate technlolgy is to roll up you sleeves and get your hands dirty.
Nobody else will do it. The mathematician if fairly simple and if we have to wait on proffesional scientists and engineers, nobodywill everknow about it and use it.
Please try it if you can
