Ushahidi which was launched in January this year to document post election violence in Kenya and which has since gone from strength to strength including winning a number of awards [Net Squared, Knight Batten Award

The group have now received further funding from Humanity United for $200,000 for development of the application. In addition they have launched a new site design at http://www.ushahidi.com and will soon be starting a number of pilot projects  with chosen organizations around the world.

One of the things that make Ushahidi special are the sense of community around the project which was started by a group of African bloggers responding to a crisis.  Ushahidi is also special because it has set a precedent for  African activists that with community and determination we can make a difference.

It's been amazing to see the community rally around the project, with developers from Ghana, Malawi, South Africa, Kenya, the Netherlands and the US. That's what's making this work, and we can't thank everyone enough for helping things come together.
