UNESCO Open Training Platform

The Open Training Platform is a UNESCO funded open access free online project which provides training for trainers and trainees.  There is a huge range of topics - ICTs, Gender issues, languages, HIV/AIDS, media, development, adult literacy and agriculture to name a few.  This site is such a brilliant resource for learners, trainers and anyone working in the non-profit sector.

The training comes in the form of toolkits and  manuals as well as practical guides. Apart from the sheer volume of courses and topics covered the site is easy to negotiate and has lots of useful features such as being able to bookmark a course you might be interested, subscribe to similar course using a RSS feed or export as a PDF file.  One great feature is the "How to adapt and locaize training material" which covers the following:

  • Level 1. Re-branding: adding institutional name, logo, and contact information
  • Level 2. Localizing: adding local examples
  • Level 3. Contextualizing: changing the content and syntax to match characteristics of the local audience and principles espoused by the organization
  • Level 4. Adapting materials for e-learning

As well as having topic categories the site is also divided into "communities" such as farmers, civil servants, teachers and so on which makes finding the right course for you much easier plus it is an excellent training resource.  Finally there is a "News" section with up to date information on training opportunities available across the internet.

Open Training Platform is one of the best online training and resource sites I have come across and well worth taking the time to scroll through the huge selections on offer.
