Just as the crisis surrounding the recently concluded rerun election in Ekiti state, is Settling down the chairman of the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) has been described as biased in handling of elections in the country and that a free, fair and credible election can not be conducted by INEC under him
In his report of the election re-run in Ekiti State, Alliance Of Progressive Youth (APY) while at its leadership council meeting over the weekend described the election as "desecrat5ion of democratic principles" stated that the electoral fraud perpetrated during the election is an eye opener to what will happen during the forthcoming general election. APY in a statement by its Director of media and publicity Comrade Oluwaseun Ayeni berated the vice president, Dr Jonathan Goodluck for abandoning serious state matters for a re-run election in 63 wards of Ekiti, as well as both the Senate President and the speaker.
According to APY "the rerun election in Ekiti once more has thrown up more questions than answer in our quest for a stable democratic development. The election from all intents and proposes was a great tragedy and monumental fraud, perpetrated by those in Political authority in connivance with the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, led by its Chairman Professor Maurice Iwu" Continuing " from the reports from our observers at the election it was revealed that Ekiti people were prepared for change, but that aspiration was truncated by the INEC and Vice president Jonathan Goodluck and Co" The group further posited that the ghost of that election will continue to haunt those who rigged it in favour of the sitting Governor.
APY maintained that with the position of the INEC chairman, before, during and after the election is that of a man who is partisan and ready to do the biddings of his pay master, thus his acceptance of the result of election in Ido - Osi local government, even when he is not constitutionally empowered to do such. The group equally demanded among other things that for credible election, violence free election in 2011, the INEC boss must shown the way out, the commission be re - organized, stiffer measures for election riggers, and that election petitions be concluded before swearing in. APY Concluded by praising the people of Ekiti for their doggedness, zeal and courage during the election, stressing that their effort definitely will not be in vain, while the rampaging thugs are warned to desist from all that is capable of igniting fire across the country. "We want to use this opportunity to commend Ekiti people for their doggedness, zeal and courage and courage during the election. Your efforts shall not be in vain, the victory can not stand the test of time, and definitely you are the winner, since those whom INEC declared winner can not celebrate their victory" Signed Ayeni Oluwaseun
