Somalia has been working to be a member to the united nation framework convention on climate change (UNFCCC). The Somali government On 10th December, 2009 joined the UNFCCC, thus making Somalia the 194th country of the organization.
It was a move that was welcomed widely throughout the country, especially by non governmental organization that deals with the world climate change and its effect to the developing and poor countries.
Delegates from 194 countries gather in Copenhagen the capital city of Denmark to discuss the effect of the climate change in generally to the world and in particularly to the poor countries.
The delegates are expected to reach a consensus deal to substitute the 2005 Koyoto agreement, which is helpful to the effects of the climate change to the world to save the world.
The developed countries are willingly to see a new agreement that is totally different from the one signed at Koyoto Japan in the year 2005 which was instructing them not to waste the climate any more and urging them to compensate to the poor countries. This is a move opposed by the poor countries and they are demanding the Koyoto agreement to remain in place even after its deadline in the 2012.
Somalia and the effect of the climate change and dumping of chemicals from developed countries.
Somalia is a country that is a victim for both climate change and dumping of waste materials from the developed country as there has been no effective central government for about two decades.
Dumping of chemical residue from industries of the developed countries in Somalia has already affected the children of Somalia following when doctors in the country realized and recorded unknown diseases caused by the nuclear chemicals found in Somali children specially those near the dumping sites.
Other affects are shortage of raining, continues drought, and inexperienced livestock problems.
The Somali delegates participating the Copenhagen meeting are expected to raise all the above problems which have already affected the people of Somalia.
