SOJRA is warmly welcome the three day conference for the Somali journalist held in Nairobi by IFJ through NUSOJ. It is also welcoming Aidan white the secretary general of IFJ to meet with some Somali journalist in Nairobi specially NUSOJ members and other supporters.
Mogadishu 26 July,2009 :: SOJRA is encouraging IFJ to give the Somali journalist the support they pledged early and in this conference. Aidan met here in Nairobi some Somali journalist from NUSOJ and others from other media organizations particularly those who are NUSOJ supporters and it was a good step for IFJ and Aidan himself.
It was a meeting that was supposed to happen very early time and we are sure IFJ will know more about Somali Journalist, Specially those victims who came here Nairobi for treatment and those who were given warning by Islamist who control most of southern Somalia.
This meeting came also, as SOJRA executive director Daud Abdi Daud announced on 5th July that there will be 7 day meeting here in Nairobi for SOJRA executive directors from 20th – 27th July 2009 to discuss why international community is not given Somali journalists the same support given to Iraqi and Afghan journalists and ways the international organization can be encouraged to support the Somali journalist who fled from Somalia and suffering here in Nairobi.
SOJRA believes the meeting could be jealous one, but whatever it is, SOJRA’s executive officers’ meeting is still going and at the end of this meeting SOJRA will make press release targeting the theme discussed in the 7 day meeting.
Abdihakim Omar Jimale was among the victim journalist attended that conference and IFJ pledged Abdihakim he will be given support, and SOJRA is expecting that pledge will be soon seen.
Abdihakim was injured on the left hand on 11th August 2007 by unknown militias, the same day killed Ali Iman Sharmake the Director Hornafrik and Mahad Ilmi who was the director of Capital Voice, at that time Abdihakim was working the government media Mogadishu.
Abdihakim met with Aidan White and explained for him about his medical situation.
Finally SOJRA will make follow up how IFJ is serious about the support they pledged for the wounded Somali Journalist, the others who are still struggling for continuing their work and those who fled the country.
