2009 has witnessed an increase in the price of paddy rice in Ngoketunjia Division (North West Region of Cameroon) as compared to 2008. A bag of 100 kg paddy rice in 2008 was sold at 10,000 frs CFA, early this year 2009 a bag of 100kg is selling at 15 to 18,000 frs CFA.

The production of rice in the area keeps on reducing as farmers lack financial and technical assistance to increase the rice production within the Division.

It is evident that the price will keep on rising as more people have taken rice to be one of the main stable food and cash crops.

If nothing is done, rice in future will only be eaten by rich people as it was in the early 1970's, where most homes only eat rice for Christmas.
