Recent improvements to the Kabissa 2.0 site - come on in and explore!

Tobias Eigen's picture

I wanted to point out a few improvements we made recently to the site, which should make it more fun and easy to use. Please come and explore, and let us know what you think! Report problems via the beta link in the logo above or contact us by email.

  • Right on the homepage: latest posts, browse organizations and chat People have been telling us to make the site more "inside out" - meaning that the vibrant Kabissa community is not obvious enough and that content and organizations need to be made easier to access. We are trying out various ways to remedy this - for now, check out the three tabs directly on the home page to get to some key features on the site. I'm not sure the chat room will stay, but the latest posts and organizations are critical.
  • Navigate the site more easily with more consistent ly available menus
You have no doubt noticed the SHOWCASE, CONNECT, LEARN menus across the top of all pages but the frontpage with extensive popup menus. These are a great way to navigate the site, but don't necessarily make all the great stuff you can do here immediately apparent. Now, when you land on one of these main sections, you will see a menu directly on the right side displaying all options for that section. Hopefully this will make it easier for you to get the features you are looking for.
  • Upload a bigger picture of yourself for your profile page!
A picture tells more than 1000 words! It is now possible to upload a big picture to your profile, which will then automatically be resized to a reasonable size on your profile page and a small 'thumbnail' representation of yourself on your blog posts. The default picture for everyone without a picture has been improved as well. To upload your picture, log in and click "my account" then click the "edit" tab. Scroll down to see the option to upload your new picture.
  • Create "Ndugu" buddy lists, track your buddies and send messages!
After logging in, you will see several new blocks on the right side throughout the site - notably NDUGU RECENT POSTS and NDUGU MESSENGER. You can send private messages through the site to fellow members via the messenger, and keep track of people you know or particularly want to follow by visiting their profile page and clicking the "Add to my ndugu list" option.
  • Leave comments, rate content and share it through email and social bookmarking!
Look closely at the various icons associated with each piece of content on the site. You will find that you can start a discussion about a blog post you feel strongly about or want to show solidarity with, rate posts that you particularly like or dislike, and share them through email to colleagues or by posting them to del.icio.us, muti.co.za or another of your favorite social bookmarking sites.
