The total freedom of the African continent is meaningless unless there is a total libration of all African and Unity; These were powerful words from Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana.
The Airforce 1 left the shores of Ghana at around 6:57pm today (11-July-2009). I will conclude that there were several factors why Obama choose to visit Ghana as his first official visit to Sub-Saharan Africa. He addressed the parliament of Ghana, had breakfast with the ex-presidents of Ghana with the current president and his wife, went to the Labadi Hospital to visit some pregnant and new-birth women. He was then flown to the Central region of Ghana with his family to tour the historic Cape Coast Castle, which was the main point for selling slaves.
Yes, Africa Can! Was a powerful point his delivered as part of his parliament address. He added that, the destiny and future of Africans is in our own hands. He talked as a strong, visioned, leadership and powerful person on earth.
Nevertheless, he made us understood several times why he choose Ghana. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr was a withness to the beginning of our independence during the inuaguation and he was also present in the first parliament of Ghana. Also, Ghana was the first country to host the American Peace Corps. He also stretched on our 52years democracy in Africa and said that it was a simple example for all other African countries to follow. He outlined that our peace, stability and security in the country will not scare away investors. I admire Ghana so much in their strives and efforts to librate itself from conflicts and etc, he added. He went on to say that any country in Africa that has same vision as Ghana can be assured of America’s strong support. He said a lot but I can only write on a few!
His departure statement was what shook many critics, because everyone was expecting him to publicly pronounce some huge money for Ghana. It never happened and I don’t think that was what Ghanaians were expecting from him. Him coming here has already sold the country to the international community and also will boost our toursim sector because he was at a great tourist site. I will love to be here again; he added.
At his departure ceremony at the airport, he stated that I have talked about the future of Ghana with your president (these talks were made private so the government of Ghana will now have to let us know what they talked about in a couple of days to come) and I promise you all of America’s strong support. I admire the country for its strong democary and even at the crucial point of the just ended elections, you placed the country’s passion first on your heart and despite the only 50,000 difference in the elections, there was a winner, understanding and a peaceful transition. This is what America cherish, this is what America wants and America is bond to support such country. I seem to have several things in common with your president and that is; we are both lawyesrs, lecturers and sportmen. Thank you Ghanaians for having us and once again, I promise you of America’s support. We will stand by you and be there for you at all times; all these were kind words from the two day visiting US President and his family.
My personal conclusion; No amount of money can solve Africa’s problems! African can be self-sufficient by the kind help of the western countries. It would start from when Africa is giving the bargaining power on their exports, when Africa is giving a fair share of its investment and resources, when Africa is involved in international policy taking, when African resources are giving to their own natives to manage and also when African leaders think about the continent rather than their selfish interest. The just past world BOSS, the UN secretary General was a Ghanaian and by his kind involvement in some few international decisions, we could all realized the impact it made on the continent with aid and investment. He was single and could do just a little. If such opportunity is giving to Africa, it will make a big difference! There should be a plateform for all African Humanitarian Organisation and NGO’s to raise mega funds for humanitarian crisis. They know their own people and their needs, no one knows African needs better than Africans themselves. We need a total libration for a United Continent. Pan-Africa is a common festival for all African-Diasporrian and its here again. Maybe, we can meet there to share some common thoughts.
Long Live Ghana, Long Live Africa and Long Live the USA!
