The three days (1st - 3rd July 2010) International conference on Motor Vehicle Administration was held at Yar'Adua Center Abuja Nigeria.
The Hon. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja Nigeria, Senator Bala Mohammed was the Chief Host of the Conference and was ably represented by the Transport Secretary FCT. In his conference speech, the Hon. Minister decried the economic and human resources lost through road traffic accident and expressed his Administrations determination to support efforts aimed at improving road traffic safety in the Federal Capital Territory and conveyed his appreciation to the organizers of the conference.
The three days conference was organized by Accident Prevention and Rescue Initiative, in conjuction with the Directorate of Road Traffic Services FCT Abuja and aimed at creating awareness and advocating for improved road traffic safety enforcement by all the thirty Six States/FCT in Nigeria. Seventeen well researched papers were presented by eleven resource persons from USA, Ghana and Nigeria.
The conference objective, as presented by Prince Fidelis Nnadi, the Executive Director, Accident Prevention and Rescue Initiative is to canvass the attention of State/FCT Governments to the urgent need to improve road traffic regulations, implementation and enforcement with a view to curtail the current intolerable rate of road crashes and its human casualties.
The conference produced a resolution to be adopted by the State/FCT Road Traffic Agencies. However participants demanded that the conference be rescheduled to review the resolution for further inputs before final adoption and implementation.
