A journalist Hassan Mayow Hassan, 35 was shot dead today on a street corner, near his home town of Afgoye, 30km west of the capital Mogadishu.

The Somali Journalists Rights Agency (SOJRA) has today condemned the murder of radio journalist Hassan Mayow Hassan who was gunned down on a street corner, near his home town of Afgoye, 30km west of the capital Mogadishu.

The killers of Hassan Mayow was fired him three bullets in his head by the fighting  militia groups as he was with colleagues on their way to cover a conflict between the transitional federal government policy and insurgents in the region, 30 km south.

"We strongly condemn this brutal murder of Hassan Mayow Hassan which characters a violent start of the year for journalists" said Daud Abdi Daud,SOJRA Executive director.

Somalia is one of the world's most dangerous countries for journalists after Iraq. All regions of the country have qualified and committed the worst press freedom violations Mr. Daud added.

Media houses have been persistently shut down by the authorities and reporters, Somali and foreign, have been routinely kidnapped by armed militia in Puntland region and south and central regions.
