Imamate Think Tank calls the piracy as self defense against foreign looters

Piracy is illegal action that takes place in rivers, seas and oceans, committed by non state actors.

For Somalia, uprising overthrew the central government in 1991 and this caused the disappearance of Somali state from international community. The lack of state attracts foreign ships to catch fish in the Somali waters.

In addition to that, Somali people have known what is going on around their coasts such as dumping west industrial materials by foreign ships. As a result; thousands of Somalis have died of west toxic from the Somali waters.

But Somalis have realized that they can do nothing against these illegal ships, because Somalia does not have warships that can guard the Somali waters.

Finally, some Somalis organized themselves to drive foreign ships from Somali waters by hijacking them. But asking them ransom is illegal and unacceptable according to the international law.

Somali pirates have argued that the foreign ships are threatening their livelihood by fishing in the Somali waters.

Top of that United Nations turned its eyes from those who are violating and entering into the Somali waters without permission. The failure of the international community to intervene and act as a behalf of Somali people brings about anarchy and chaos towards internal and external of Somalia.

"I understand that the piracy is unlawful action according to the international law but it seems to me that Somali people do not have other option rather than protecting the food of their children from foreign looters".said Abdilkadir Abdikarim Ali

"I am not promoting Somali pirates but I am telling you that foreign ships have exploited Somali national resources so Somali people have right to defend their national resources by applying the rules of the international law" he added.

Ten Somali innocent fish man were captured by Germany marines in the Somali waters. Somali fish men were fishing while German warship attacked and captured a small boat in which Somali fish men on board.

The German marines handed Somali fish men into hands of Kenya Authority. And Somali innocent fish men are in the prison in Kenya. It can be said that, this is a barbaric action against humanity and also a violation of the international maritime law.

Somali people are appealing to the international community to put pressure on both Germany and Kenyan Authorities to release these Somali innocent and fish men and compensate them.
