The Human Rights and Justice Group International (Kabissa profile) entry "Campaign Against Cyber Crime (CAC)" was selected as finalist under economic development for the Stockholm Challenge Award 2008.

The finalists have been selected from the excellent collection of ICT projects that have competed for the Stockholm Challenge 2008 six category awards and all are invited to come to Stockholm to participate in all parts of the event, show their work and meet with peers and many others who devote their time, skills and interest to ICT for development.

We look forward to winning the final trouphy which I believe will take our Cyber Crime Project and ICT projects to a new level.

    • Campaign Against Cybercrime (CAC) is a project that utilizes ICT as a tool for securing the fundamental rights of online business owners as well as the rights of consumers from internet criminals.
    • Vision, Objectives and Goals
    • Vision: To secure the fundamental rights of internet users

      Objectives:

      1. To act as platform for reporting and referral system for internet crime complaints from people in Nigeria and around the world

      2. To provide the victims of cbyer crime a convenient and easy-to-use reporting mechanism for alerting authorities of suspected criminal or civil violations.

      3. To provide the public and private sector with information on cyber crime

      4. To provide access to justice assistance to victims of cyber crime

       

      Goal

      Our overall goal is to act as a reporting and referral system for cyber crime complaints from people abroad and law enforcement agencies having jurisdiction.

    • How does ICT contribute to the organisational objectives
    • ICT has made it possible for us to network and collaborate with law enforcement agencies in order to facilitate the whole process. We contact this agencies using ICT tools like email, sms, fax, GSM etc. It makes the work faster more than any other method.

      It equally assist us in tracking down this fraudsters like locating the origin of their mail, track number of item purchased with stolen credit card, real owner of the cradit card, bank of issuance, destination of the items.

      Generally, it assist us analysis the content of their messages.

    • Transferability
    • A small community based group elsewhere in the world can replicate our project methods without minimum cost and resources. Also they will need the cooperation of any local law enforcement agency like the sherif, police etc.

      Collaboration with local courier agencies is equally need in case any goods/item should enter the country through their services.

    • Project summary
    • Organized criminals are using cyberspace more frequently to target credit card information and personal and financial details for computer fraud, to the profit of credit card counterfeit operations.

       

      Human Rights and Justice Group International fills this unique niche by creating an online platform for information exchange and enforcement of justice through its project “Campaign Against Cybercrime (CAC). The general public and victims of cyber crime can access our website and report cyber crime cases through telephone, fax, sms or internet. CAC stresses on the ability to gather complaints and reports and create a clearing house for local law enforcement officials assigned with the investigation of cyber crimes through the above mediums. In an effort to more accurately reflect the wide-ranging nature of online complaints being reported, the Human Rights and Justice Group International utilizes the power of ICT especially mobile technologies in its project. This new information platform called NijaTech serves as a vehicle to receive, develop, and refer criminal complaints regarding the rapidly expanding areas of cyber crime. The CAC gives the victims of cyber crime a convenient and easy-to-use reporting mechanism for alerting authorities of suspected criminal. We collaborate with various law enforcement agencies in Nigeria and abroad through information exchange using our NijaTech Platform.

       

      An essential element in our strategy is to promote the use of web tools and mobile technologies which are cost effective and easily accessible by the public in the fight against cyber crime. This is possible thanks to training from Kabissa on the use of ICT and ICT facilities and technical assistance from KITE (Key to Information and Technology Education).

       

      Our on going activities revolve around our goals which includes:

      1. Advocacy and public enlightenment on the dangers of cyber crime

      2. Offering support, report and filling petition to various law enforcement agencies on behalf of victims of cyber crimes.

      3. Providing the media with information on cyber crime in Nigeria and abroad.
