Note a few tips on blogging on Kabissa, with SOJRA as an example:
- Use tags actively and consistently to categorize your posts, separated by commas. So for example, I think all posts by SOJRA should be tagged with "sojra, somalia, media, human rights" and any other tags you think are relevant. The key point to remember is that f you use the same tags alot, then they will increase in relevance because when people browse by them they will see all your posts in one place. Using SOJRA as a tag is also exciting since it helps to categorize all your posts in one place, even if you have different people in your organisation blogging about SOJRA activities.
- Use the categories carefully to make your post available in the various secitons of the blog, as seen in the "connect" menu. So all of your press release type posts I think would fit in the "News and Announcements" category. This provides yet another way for people to find your posts.
- Include a very relevant and concise first paragraph. This will be displayed as the "teaser" for your post on the Kabissa blog and draws people in to read the rest of your post. Generally if you use a more conversational style to introduce your press release it is easier to read than a press release for a general audience.
- If you can, please embed a photograph or video - it will make your post more accessible as well.
- If you can, consider changing your username to a personal name from SOJRA on your account settings. Your user account on Kabissa is personal to you and helps people to understand you and your voice. You can also add your personal biographical information and info about what you offer the Kabissa community and what you are looking for on your personal account settings. Meanwhile you can edit SOJRA's profile and add more people to it on the "my organisations" link on your account page.
- A technical note: when you are copying and pasting from Word or another word processor, click first on the "paste from word" clipboard icon. A window pops up which you can paste your text into. Unnecessary word formatting will be stripped and your post will look more attractive.

This is our last day in country (Kenya) since this evening we go to Nairobi airport to catch British Airways.
This is our second summer of One Laptop Per Child, Kibwezi, Kenya. This time we are a group of 21, last summer (July) a group of 8. We have a blog of our own and these tips are great. Thanks.
Hi BoBraxton - welcome to Kabissa! I am glad these tips were helpful to you.
I am a fan both of Kenya (I lived there for several years as a teenager) and of OLPC (I have been following the project - often skeptically - for years, and my two children each have one) so am interested to learn how your OLPC project is going in Kenya.
Please be sure to add your OLPC initiative as an organisation on Kabissa so we can all learn more about you and follow your work. You can also create a blog here to complement your main blog (tell us the URL!).
Warm regards,
Tobias
As Federal Government of Nigeria under President Umar Yar Adua begins deregulation of the downstream oil sector, prices of oil products have gone up with some like kerosine and diesel being scarce.
Price of kerosine moved from N50 per litre to N110; diesel from about N80-90 to N130-N150. That of PMS (gasoline) is to become N110 from N65. More hardship for the people.
But government officials and its apologists say it is temporary that the prices will soon fall to below what they were before the deregulations. Nigerians have heard that several times before.
Hi Jare!
It's great to hear from you again. I hope you have been keeping well!
Thanks for posting about deregulation in Nigeria.
Next time, though, please start a new post (look for the "post to group" pulldown and select "blog post"). Also, you will want to use the Connect group for blogging about topics other than site tech support (see Connect on the Groups menu or go straight to http://kabissa.org/group/connect).
You can also create a new group for ASETO for blogging where others can join and follow your work, and where your posts then also appear on ASETO's profile page. I will be creating a screencast in the next few days about creating groups for blogging.
Warm regards,
Tobias
FYI - I have moved ASETO's post about deregulation in Nigeria to a new post at http://www.kabissa.org/blog/deregulation-more-hardship-nigerians
Please contribute any comments about the topic there.
In future, please post new topics to the Connect group at http://kabissa.org/group/connectÂ
Questions, comments, feedback about the Kabissa platform are most welcome here in the Site Tech Support group at http://kabissa.org/group/sitesupport
Thanks!
Tobias
