Today Flying Kites, an organization dedicated to raising the standards of care available to the world's poorest children, launched a new fundraising program called Adventure Challenges. This new program gives supporters the chance to take part in one of six expeditions to the world's most physically challenging and beautiful locations after achieving a set fundraising goal. The program will give our committed supporters tangible incentives for their advocacy and fundraising efforts on behalf of Flying Kites.
There are six adventures to choose from, climbing to base camp on Mt. Everest, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, kayaking the Baja in Mexico, climbing the Kalindikhal Glacier in India, sailing a windjammer in Maine, and hiking the Long Trail in Vermont. The trips runs between June and October of 2010. Each trip has a fundraising target associated with it ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Participants must hit their fundraising target at least six weeks prior to the beginning of the trip.
Half of the funds raised by each Adventure Challenges participant will be donated to Flying Kites. The other half goes to expenses associated with the trip. Trips are all-inclusive; prices cover flights, food, accomodations, and most equipment.
Flying Kites is committed to benefitting the local economy in the destination countries. Adventure Challenges uses only local tour companies in Nepal, Tanzania, India, and Mexico. Flying Kites also ensures that all the tour companies pay their staff a fair wage.
Funds raised by the Adventure Challenges program will be used to cover the operational expenses of running Flying Kites Kinangop Children's Center. With operating costs covered by the Adventure Challenges program, donor contributions can be used for the development of Flying Kites Kinangop Children's Center in Kenya and eventually will fuel expansion to other communities with a tragic abundance of vulnerable children including India, Brazil, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
