A group of Kenyans have gotten together to organise an initiative to unite Kenyans by all singing the national anthem at the same time (concept below). Despite the fact that this is the day the National Accord was signed, we are still living in a very polarized atmosphere where the political class still seeks to mobilise along ethnic lines.
This will take place at various fora around the country at 1 pm on 28th Feb. People can sing the national anthem in English or Swahili. The idea is that people will sing along to the national anthem as it is played on the radio regardless of where they are or what they are doing (all 3 verses). Following the national anthem, people will simply disperse and carry on with their day.
By way of this email, I would ask all of you to mobilise your networks using the concept below. Remember, this is not an initiative that 'belongs' to anyone. It is simply Kenyans getting together to unite under our national anthem.
I would ask that wherever you are able to mobilise groups to get together and sing, please let me know so that we can maintain a list of venues where people will congregate.
Please send us photos and / or video's of your groups singing on the day on unite@28feb.co.ke
