So far more than 1600 bloggers from 100 countries have registered to participate in the worldwide Blog Action Day on 15 October 2010. A global call to unite bloggers and raise awareness for the issue of water.

At 2aid.org, we would like to take this opportunity and participate by inviting you and our (mainly german) community on facebook to share your views and ideas with us. As a Germany based Non-Profit Organization we use only our social media networks, such as facebook and twitter, to raise awareness and funds for projects in developing countries. So far we have managed to build three wells with our Ugandan partner Emesco.

Water Scarcity and the lack of sanitation is still a stressing problem in many developing countries and a major cause for water related diseases. Despite all efforts to reduce the lack of access to drinking water by 2015 as part of the MDGs, there are still nearly 1 Bill. people without access to clean water. This summer, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to declare the right to clean drinking water for all.

While clean water ist abundant and accessible in Europe, we also face serious water challenges here, whether it is the growing lack of water due to intensive agrobusiness in mediteranian countries or the privatisation of former communal water supply in Germany.

  • What do you think will change, now that clean water is a declared right by the United Nations. Will it have an impact or change the approach towards development?
  • Have you seen any water related campaigns or projects that particulary affected you?

Please join the discussion and share your views here with us. We are planning a sum up as a collective contribution for the Blog Action Day.
