Africa Gathering: Sharing ideas for positive change.

What is Africa Gathering?
Africa Gathering, the event that brings technophiles, thinkers, entrepreneurs, innovators and everybody else together to talk about positive change in sustainable development, technology, social networking, health, education, environment and good governance in Africa, is coming to Nairobi on 21st and 22nd December 2009.

Our goal is to help highlight all of the great work being done in the world by Africans and friends of Africa. We are even able to help budding innovators and entrepreneurs by putting the profits of our events in to some the projects that our attendees like the most, this way we live out our ideal of sustainability without charity.

As a result, by attending you are not only directly supporting some of Africa's most innovative entrepreneurs and innovators, you are able to meet, network and share ideas with them - helping build confidence and develop interest in Africa-focussed initiatives and businesses. Everyone can benefit from this enlightening experience.

Who are we?
As friends of Africa, we’re proponents of sustainable positive change where it is wanted and not where it’s not. We facilitate the passionate conversation surrounding how new technologies are opening the eyes of the world to a strong, independent and prosperous 21st Century Africa by bringing inspired people together to talk, share and listen.

What do we believe in?
No one knows African problems like an African. We think that the lives of many ordinary Africans can be improved using the benefits of technology, using African solutions to African problems – sometimes with a helping hand from others. We aim to bring those with problems and those with the ability to solve them together.

Why Africa Gathering?
Africa Gathering has been borne of the need to develop a results-driven conversation about technology and Africa. All over the world people have great ideas that could bring positive change to Africa. Many, though not all, of these people aren’t big charities or aid organisations – they are passionate individuals, inventors, thinkers and dreamers. These people may not have lots of money, time or the business acumen to promote their ideas on their own – but that doesn’t mean their ideas should be ignored. Africa Gathering exists to help generate interest in these people,  share their ideas and promote their projects. We’re here to help bring innovators in to contact with journalists, entrepreneurs and investors – the very people who have the ability to recognise a good idea and help make it work.

How it works

Does Africa Gathering help anyone?
By using the money we had left over after costs at the event in London in October 2009, we were able to give the ‘Africa Gathering Prize’ to Kevin ‘Banana man’ Allen - a £5000 prize package towards helping him to reach his target of feeding a million school meals of fresh fruit to hungry and impoverished children in Zululand. The package included cash, mentoring, advertising, marketing & sales and professional introductions to potential partners and sponsors.

This means that by attending Africa Gathering everybody is investing in direct, sustainable & positive change in Afr
ica.
