eLearning Africa Photo Competition 2011 attracts significant interest

Submissions can be made until April 21

Berlin, Germany. Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The 2nd eLearning Africa Photo Competition has met with a fantastic response. Dozens of photo enthusiasts from across Africa have submitted inspiring pictures since this year’s contest opened last month. eLearning Africa is the largest pan-African conference on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for Development, Education and Training, which will take place from May 25th – 27th in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

eLearning Africa News Portal: Sharing Africa's eLearning knowledge

Berlin, Germany. Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. eLearning Africa's newly designed news portal is now online. It features new social media links, improved site navigation and enhanced multimedia. The portal covers the most relevant news and information in the field of ICT for Development and Education in Africa. Stories cover, for example, issues such as the eBook market in Kenya, mobile training solutions for farmers in Uganda, how computer labs are provided for South African students, or in-depth information on China?s investment in the African telecom sector.

Freie Universitaet Berlin invites to Winter School Prior to Online Educa Berlin 2010

The two-week winter school “E-Learning in the Age of Globalisation” runs from November, 22nd to 29th. The workshop targets participants from developing countries who work in the field of ICT-enhanced learning at universities, public organisations or in the private sector, such as staff member of e-learning centers or academics, who foster the adoption and spread of e-learning in their departments. Applicants must have spent at least three months in Germany for educational or research purposes.

Record Participation at eLearning Africa 2010

eLA 2010 Opening PlenaryCelebrating the 5th anniversary of eLearning Africa, this year’s conference saw a record number of 1778 participants - more than twice as many as at the inaugural conference in 2006. Delegates from all over the world came to Lusaka, Zambia, to attend workshops, sessions and best practice demonstrations which provided fresh stimuli and new ideas.

Winners of the first eLearning Africa photo competition will be featured in an exhibition at the fifth pan-African conference on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for Development, Education and Training

Kennedy Sinkali, surrounded by a crowd of eager fifth-grade school kids, is captured explaining phonics to them in front of a laptop screen. Sinkali is a teacher in a village near Ndola in the Copperbelt province of Zambia and uses the school’s only computer, which has to be shared between four classes and three hundred children.

Natasha Bomba, who took the picture while volunteering at the school, was announced as the winner of the first eLearning Africa photo competition. The prize, a digital camera, will be presented during the eLearning Africa conference from May 26th -28th in Lusaka, Zambia.
