A Ubiquitous Nigerian Society? By Bankole Olubamise

The world information society space is shrinking in developing world and exploding in the developed world. We have said many times that the key to unlocking development in our developing world is to use technology, especially information technology to explode growth, transform socio-economic space, train the young, prepare human capital and engender development. The truth of the matter is the the world is speedily moving along, whilst we are busy fiddling, like Nero whilst Rome burned!!!

Nigeria's President Orders Implementation of ICT4D Plan by All Departments of Government!

Jonathan orders implemention of ICT Action Plan

BY NGOZI SAMS

With the official launch of the Information and Communications Technology for Development, ICT4D plan document yesterday in Abuja, all the federal government ministries, departments and agencies have been urged to start full implementation of the ICT agenda relevant to them.

President Goodluck Jonathan gave this directive at the opening of the e-Nigeria 2010 summit in Abuja. He said this was necessary, considering the place of Information Technology in achieving sustainable socio-economic development in the current global economy.

“We must bear in mind that this document cannot implement itself,” he said. “It requires that stakeholders should embark on specific actions and initiatives as outlined in the plan for us to achieve the desired objective of mainstreaming ICT into our national development agenda.”

On the part of the government I direct that all ministries, departments, and agencies should commence immediate implementation of areas of the Nigerian ICT4D plan that are relevant to their respective mandates.”

ICT Revolution: The Kids Are Coming!

It is no longer news that the 21st century is the information and knowledge age. What is news are the ways most societies are adapting and engaging the new economy built on knowledge, especially knowledge of information and communications technology and how these can be applied as building blocks for development in the 21sts century.

All over the world, most societies, especially developed societies have engaged their children very early to prepare them for the challenges of solving the problems of the 21st century. This is what we mean by societies with vision.
