This privacy notice discloses the privacy practices for Kabissa. Last updated 2 February 2008.
What This Privacy Policy Covers
- This policy covers how Kabissa treats personal information that
Kabissa collects and receives, including information related to your
past use
of Kabissa products and services. Personal information is information about
you that is personally identifiable like your name, address, e-mail
address, or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available.
- This
policy does not apply to the practices of companies that Kabissa does
not own or control, or to people that Kabissa does not employ or manage.
Information Collection and Use
- Kabissa collects personal information when you apply for membership
with Kabissa and when you visit Kabissa pages.
- When you register we ask for information such as your name, e-mail
address, address, and organization focus. For some surveys,
we may also ask for your role in the organization and gender. Once you
register with
Kabissa and
sign up for membership, you are not anonymous to us.
- Kabissa collects
information about your transactions with us, including the use of services
and updating of your records (Organization Profile).
- Kabissa automatically
receives and records information on our server logs from your browser,
including your IP address, Kabissa cookie information,
and the
Web pages you request.
- Kabissa uses information for the following
general purposes: to fulfill your requests for products and services,
improve our services, contact
you, conduct research, and provide anonymous reporting for internal and
external use.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
Kabissa does not rent, sell, or share personal information about
you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except under the following
circumstances:
- We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to
establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal
claims;
- We believe it is necessary to share information in
order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities,
suspected
fraud, situations involving
potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations
of Kabissa's terms of use, or as otherwise required by law.
- We transfer information about you if Kabissa is acquired by or merged
with another organization. In this event, Kabissa
will notify
you before
information
about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different
privacy policy.
- From time to time, Kabissa may also download
the entire Kabissa site, including the Kabissa African Civil Society
Directory,
in which your
details are posted,
and member Web sites. By agreeing to make this information
available on the Kabissa site, you have also agreed to
let us share that
information with
other organizations
in print or electronic form. This information will only
be shared in pursuit
of Kabissa's mission, not for financial gain. Some
information in your Organization Profile, such as e-mail
addresses, is
not publicly available on
the Kabissa site and will not be shared.
Cookies
Kabissa uses cookies on some sections of our site. No personally
identifiable information (e-mail address, name, etc.) is
collected with the cookies
that we set, and accepting cookies while on the Kabissa site
will not put you
at risk
for marketing to other sites.
- Different browsers have different cookie-settings. With
Netscape you can ask the browser to allow, warn you, or completely
disable
cookies.
Internet
Explorer
has an additional feature where you can specify different
settings for different security zones. You can choose to
allow Web sites
to create
cookies for you
in your "trusted sites" (like Kabissa), to warn you before you create
them in your local Intranet zone, and to give you an option to never allow them
in a "restricted zone." See the "Help" section
of your particular browser for more information on working

Your Ability to Edit and Delete Your Account Information
and Preferences
- You can edit your Kabissa Organization Profile
at any time by going to http://www.kabissa.org
- We
reserve the right to send you certain communications
relating to the Kabissa service, such as service announcements,
administrative
messages and the Kabissa
Member Newsletter, that are considered part of your
Kabissa account, without offering you the opportunity to opt-out of receiving
them.
- You can delete your Kabissa account by visiting our Membership Cancellation
page at http://www.kabissa.org/members/cancel-membership.php
Confidentiality and Security
- We limit access to personal information about you to employees
and volunteers who we believe reasonably need to come into contact
with that information to provide products or services to you or in order
to do their
jobs.
- We have physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that
comply with federal regulations to protect personal information
about you.
- Your Kabissa Organization Profile and Account is password-protected.
- In certain areas Kabissa uses industry-standard SSL-encryption to protect
data transmissions.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
Kabissa may update this policy. We will notify you about significant
changes in the way we treat personal information
by sending a notice to the primary e-mail
address specified in your Organization Profile
or by placing a prominent notice on our site.
