Kabissa training partner Adam Suleiman used Time to Get Online to improve communications between members of the Jigawa state Integrated Water Resources Management Committee.
The State Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Committee is a committee consisting of key stakeholders in Water and Enviromental management in the Komadugu-Yobe Basin of Nigeria. Historically this region suffers from floods and shortages of water resulting from poor management?Ǭ†by?Ǭ†concerned authorities. Adam's project is working with key stakeholders to address these issues through an innovative approach of creating a harmonious system of management by those affected (communities/resource user groups), managers (government line ministries) and beneficiaries (communities/women associations/households etc) . The innovation is an integrated approach to water and land resources management where these groups will work in collaboration instead of competition, harmoniously instead of independently and formally and informally to address common issues. The project has so far facilitated the establishment of five Intergrated Water Resources Management Committees in five States. The one in Jigawa is tagged to be the first IWRM Committee in?Ǭ†Western Africa.

The training provided an opportunity to create an
awareness of the Internet as a tool that will:
- Facilitate and ease?Ǭ†communications?Ǭ†efficiently
- Provide access to information about the process and success stories in IWRM, funding opportunities, networking opportunities
- Serve as a platform for basin wide sharing of information.
?Ǭ†
It is also aimed at further
underscoring the importance of mobile telephones as a communication tool that will
facilitate access to remote areas where there are no internet access
and vice versa.
