Kim Lowery Moves to the Kabissa Board

Kim in her element - training workshop in Lagos, March 2005Kim Lowery has decided to step down as Co-Executive Director of Kabissa to pursue new adventures. She will continue to contribute to Kabissa's success by joining the Board of Directors this January.

The Kabissa Board would like to thank Kim for a job well done. She worked very hard over the last five years and without her, Kabissa would be a shadow of the organization it is today. We are very sorry to see her step down as Co-Executive Director. We are thrilled, however, that sh ehas accepted a Board position, so that Kabissa can continue benefiting from her vision and commitment.

We wish Kim well in her future endeavors. On her desk she has always kept a card with that famous Gandhi quote: "Be the change you wish to see in the world." She has certainly acted in that spirit at Kabissa and we know that she will continue to devote her life to making the world a better place.

Kabissa Members and colleagues that have worked with Kim over the years are invited to send your messages, stories and photos to community@kabissa.org. We will gather them and publish them on the Kabissa website.

Dear friends and colleagues in the Kabissa community,

After much reflection, I have decided to leave Kabissa next month. The past five years have been amazing, watching Kabissa grow from a kitchen table volunteer effort to a vibrant organization with over of over 1,000 members, exciting programs, a Board and Advisory Committee, supporters all over the world, and a great team of volunteers. However, the time for change has come and I think this change will be a good one, both for Kabissa and for me personally.

I leave Kabissa in the able hands of my fellow Co-Director, Tobias Eigen, who will continue to lead Kabissa's efforts to make technology a revolutionary force for change in Africa. Chioma Oruh, the latest addition to the Kabissa team, will also continue as Member Relations Manager and as usual your main point of contact.

The Kabissa Board has invited me to join in January as a Board Member. I have accepted and am pleased to be able to continue to be part of Kabissa in that capacity. While I am leaving in October to seek other job opportunities, I will continue to work closely with the Kabissa team over the next few months to make this a smooth transition.

Thanks to all of you who have inspired me every day with your dedication and passion for improving your communities. It has been an honor and a blessing to work with you. I will continue to consider myself part of the Kabissa family and hope to keep in touch with many of you!

Many thanks,

Kim Lowery
