1. DEAR MIMI: Can I use both Webmail and Thunderbird to get my mail?

Now here's a question that comes up frequently these days in Kabissa's tech support mailbox. Many Kabissa members still use cybercafes and webmail to access their email on Kabissa. After a while, however, they begin to look for more ways to get at their email as the organizations they work for become more sophisticated and get Internet connectivity in their offices, or perhaps they are simply lucky enough to be in a place where Internet access using a dedicated computer affordable. Or, and this would be gratifying to Mimi indeed, they are beginning to make more clever use of a USB ey as Mimi suggested last month to maintain a secure and reliable travelling 'office' in their pockets as they move from cybercafe to cybercafe.

  • The Kabissa Team Leaps Headfirst into the 'blogosphere'
  • The Kabissa team is now blogging at http://www.kabissa.org/blog - and we are all very excited about it. As our Dear Mimi described in her column in November, blogs are powerful tools for reaching out to and dialoguing with people around the world. Tobias Eigen has been quietly been posting to his personal blog at http://saidia.org for some time now, but having a team blog at Kabissa will encourage all of us to share more regularly about our day-to-day experiences and the learning we are doing about ICT in African civil society. The Kabissa blog will also give us opportunities to take some of our fiery Kabissa debates to the blogosphere so others can join in all the fun! Please join us!
  • Nonprofit Technology Conference Roundup

A longtime Kabissa member, SDN makes sophisticated use of ICTs and in particular the web, most recently with the just launched online journal, greenlightnigeria.org : "We hope to create a channel of communication between activists, election mentors on the ground, and the outside world that has a stake in the success of democracy in Nigeria."
